A state-owned enterprise headquartered in Beijing, capital of China, Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG) is not only a constructor of the Expo Site but also an exhibitor for Beijing Expo 2019, with the theme “Live Green, Live Better.” Located in the zone for enterprise gardens in the “Education and the Future” exhibition area, the BCEG garden gives a full display to the company’s “green wisdom.”
Constructors of the BCEG garden built two semi-enclosed structures with new materials that feature fluent curves, which look like a huge hand holding a smaller one and perfectly integrate into the surrounding space and plants. The roofs of the two structures use hyaline membranes to enable natural light to penetrate inside, thus saving energy. Popular science exhibitions will be held in the structures to convey the idea of environmental protection to every visitor.
A theme sculpture named “Repaired Earth” is erected in a water pond in the square outside the structures, which is the core highlight of the entire garden. The sculpture of the earth, with a diameter of 2.4 meters, is embraced by the two structures that resemble a huge hand and a smaller one, symbolizing that BCEG is committed to safeguarding lucid waters and green mountains with its green, intelligent full industrial chain, so as to protect the beautiful life of the offspring. This also testifies to the company’s tireless efforts to build green, livable cities and promote the Beautiful China initiative.
In the open space outside the structures in the garden, elements such as flowering plants and flower stands are used to create a horticultural wonder that integrates fashionable arts and innovative technologies. It is noteworthy that the ground of the entire garden is paved with floor tiles made of recycled construction wastes. Construction waste recycling is a new business on which BCEG focuses during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020). Relevant production lines that set a model for on-site construction waste resource disposal and utilization in China have been established in several places of Beijing. Now, the environmentally friendly practice is integrated into the Expo Site. Floor tiles made of recycled construction wastes boast remarkable carrying capacity and excellent water-penetrating performance. When scrolling the garden, every visitor will experience the power of “unlimited recycling of limited resources.”
With the spirit of craftsmanship, builders of the garden have created an architectural masterpiece that will become a classic of the times and promote the theme “Live Green, Live Better” with their green wisdom. When Beijing Expo 2019 kicks off, visitors from around the world will experience the beauty of architecture in the structures and gardens constructed by workers from BCEG, including the International Pavilion. In the BCEG garden, they will also feel the Beijing-based state-owned enterprise’s persistent efforts to implement the Beautiful China initiative and create a better life for humankind with its green, intelligent full industrial chain.
